While researching for this project we realized how common the term “participatory city” has become. It is not so much the question of whether or not citizens should play a more important role in the planning and designing of “their” city that is discussed. There is an appearant consensus that this is in general a good idea. But the question of the HOW, with what tools and methods a meaningful participation can be made possible is less clear. With this blog we want to also review the current state of the “participatory city” and discuss questions such as: what are the current methods of citizen participation, what case studies are often referenced and what are possible ciriticism towards the “participatory turn”?
